This is how I work nowadays  … (example VMFS corruption)

  • I listen on skype (sanbarrow)
  • new customer explains their problem in a first skype-call
  • I ask for a VMFS-header dump – read more
  • once I received the dump I typically need about an hour to analyse it
  • then I call the user again and explain the situation
  • if necessary I then start a remote session via Teamviewer or Anydesk
  • during remote sessions my priorities are: safe operations that do not interrupt production if possible

  • 2002 – I joined the german VMware-forum
  • 2003 – I joined the VMTN community
  • 2005 – I published a construction kit to create a Windows LiveCD that can run VMware Workstation
  • 2008 – I published a construction kit to create a Windows LiveCD that can be used to replace the VMware ColdcloneCD
  • 2009 – I developed a procedure to extract thick provisioned VMDKs from corrupt VMFS-datastores
  • 2011 – I published the first version of a Linux LiveCD to be used for VMFS-recovery
  • 2011 – I turned my hobby into a profession and joined
  • 2013 – I learned how to create ESXi LiveCDs
  • 2014 – I developed a procedure to extract thin provisioned VMDKs from corrupt VMFS-datastores
  • 2016 – I started  to work as a freelancer as I needed more time to care for my 90 years old mother
  • 2017 – I started to create new procedures for VMFS 6 – work in progress
  • 2018 – healthcare problems resolved and I am back in business
